Alpena County Fairgrounds
The Fairgrounds will reopen on May 15, 2023, for the camping season.
We are located on the beautiful Thunder Bay River and have 37 acres of scenic shoreline where you can enjoy camping, fishing, biking, and wildfowl sanctuary.
We offer 69 campsites with power, 12 sites directly on the river, showers, and a holding tank disposal area on site. If you are bringing your horse(s), we offer a boarding barn and arena for all campers.
The County Fairgrounds is within the city limits and has two free boat launches to the Thunder Bay River. The County also has hundreds of acres of state land nearby for hiking, skiing, and outdoor activities.
Planning a family reunion or wedding? Our merchants' building has a kitchen and plenty of room to enjoy with your friends and family. If needed, we also have a covered stage and grandstand also located on the fairgrounds.
Our fenced-in kiddy park is located on the river and would be a refreshing place for a picnic while the children play on the slides, swings, and other fun things kids love to do. The park also offers a covered picnic area and a relaxing environment as you watch the wildlife on the water. Next to the park, is a large area of thick green grass and shade trees to throw a blanket down, throw a frisbee or play catch with the family.
